Little Orso Bookshelf- Titanic Edition

I am a huge historical fiction fan, so I was beyond thrilled when I discovered Polar The Titanic Bear.

This is hands down one of the best childrens' books that I have ever bought.   It is a true story, written by Daisy Corning Stone Spedden (later released by a relative named Leighton H. Coleman III).  Daisy was a survivor of the Titanic incident, and wrote and illustrated this book for her son Douglas

The book is narrated by the main character Polar, a stuffed polar bear made by the famous Steiff Company of Germany.  Polar takes you along from his birth (being hand made in Germany), through his journeys with Master. (that is what he calls Douglas)  You get to visit the world, and "re-live" the sinking of the Titanic, through this adorable bear's eyes.

My favorite part of the book, is that it not only has illustrations, but it also includes real historical pictures.  In the one above, the little boy in the chair is Douglas, and if you look below him you can see Polar at his feet.

This is a wonderful book, that everyone should have in their home library.  All ages will adore it, and it is a fantastic way to get your children interested in history.
